Today's Challenge ~ Tomorrow's Hope

St. Mary's Through the Years **
Case Statement

In an effort to strengthen the life of faith among us, the Diocese of Greensburg is embarking on an historic effort to meet current and long term needs concerning Clergy Formation, Priest Retirement, Catholic Education and Formation, Building Infrastructure, Catholic Charities and our local parishes.

St. Mary Mother of God is one of 32 parishes actively participating in this diocesan-wide capital campaign entitled Today’s Challenge ~ Tomorrow’s Hope.  Bishop Brandt, five initial Model Phase Parishes, 21 Group One Parishes and 24 Group Two Parishes have already been successful in raising $34M from 13,000 generous Catholic families.

The Diocese of Greensburg has set our goal at $355,000. We as a parish of St. Mary Mother of God Church, in order to be successful in all our identified projects, have set a goal of $635,000.  Our parish will receive 40% of all funds raised by our members for our own local needs.  Additionally, 60% of all funds raised beyond our Diocesan set goal will be allocated to our parish.  We will use these monies to renovate the parish hall and kitchen to complete the multi-purpose pastoral center and to enhance the handicap accessibility of the church.

Email us for more information about the campaign, project or how to make a tax deductible donation in support of this project.

“Year of the Priest” - June 19th, 2009 thru June 19th, 2010

James Cardinal Stafford, the Major Apostolic Penitentiary, announced that during the “Year of the Priest”, Pope Benedict XVI will grant plenary indulgences to priests and the faithful. All truly penitent Christian faithful who, in church or oratory, devotedly attend Holy Mass and offer prayers to Jesus Christ, supreme and eternal Priest, for the priests of the Church, or perform any good work to sanctify and mold them to His Heart, are granted a Plenary Indulgence, on the condition that they have expiated their sins through Sacramental Confession and prayed in accordance with the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff. This may be done on the opening and closing days of the The Year of the Priest, on the 150th anniversary of the death of Saint John Mary Vianney (August 4th), on the first Thursday of the month, or on any other day established by the ordinaries of particular places for the good of the faithful.  To find out more on the "Year of the Priest" click here.

A Prayer for Our Priests

Almighty God, in your love
You bless your Church with priests,
a sign of your faithfulness to your people.

May our prayerful encouragement,
during this year and years to come,
help them remain faithful to the calling
they have received from you.

As they tend your flock,
grant them a caring heart.
In them may we know the voice of Christ,
our Good Shepherd, who lives and reigns
with you and the holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen
